Mijn naam is Markus Rehm.
I am a Paralympic long jumper (T64) based in Leverkusen, Germany. Alongside my career as an athlete, I work as a certified prosthetist, designing and building prosthetic solutions. Sport has always played a huge role in my life and I discovered my passion for athletics in primary school. Even today, I’m fascinated by the question of how far we can push the limits of both the human body and technology. When I was 14, I lost my lower right leg in a wakeboarding accident. What initially felt like the end of everything turned out to be the beginning of an incredible journey. Athletics gave me a new purpose and taught me that our biggest limitations are often the ones we place on ourselves. Since then, I have won five Paralympic gold medals, multiple World Championship titles, and set my 14th world record with a jump of 8.72 metres. While I’m proud of those achievements, I know they are only possible because of the incredible people who have supported me throughout my journey.
At the end of 2025 and after more than 16 successful years together, my longtime coach Steffi Nerius retired. It was the end of an unforgettable chapter and the beginning of a new one. Guido and I have known each other for many years, and I had always admired his approach to coaching. He combines experience with a modern mindset and thanks to his deep understanding of prosthetics, immediately understood the unique challenges of my event. Joining Team Para Atletiek simply felt like the perfect fit and, to be honest, the impressive progress of so many athletes within the team speaks for itself.
From day one, I received an incredibly warm welcome. The atmosphere is positive, supportive and fun, while at the same time everyone is fully committed to improving every single day. That combination was exactly what I was looking for. Guido’s strong focus on speed development and sprint mechanics has already given me a fresh perspective on my training and I truly believe there is still more potential in my jumping. Surrounded by so much knowledge and experience, I’m excited to keep learning, growing, and hopefully contributing some of my own expertise. Outside of athletics, you’ll usually find me wakeboarding, snowboarding or spending quality time with my family and friends. Those moments help me recharge, keep me grounded, and remind me that enjoying the journey is just as important as reaching the destination.
