Mijn naam is Valentin Bertrand.
At 30 years old, I am a para-athlete with severe hemiplegia. As a long jumper, I won the bronze medal at the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships in Paris. In August 2025, I set a new French record of 6.21m, achieving the second-best performance in the world over the previous twelve months. Since my first World Championships in 2013, at the age of 18, I have had the honour of representing the French national team at the world’s biggest competitions, including the World Championships, European Championships, and the Paralympic Games in Rio, Tokyo, and Paris.
Despite major challenges including living with Crohn’s disease since 2015 and experiencing epileptic seizures in 2017, which nearly brought my elite sporting career to an end I remained focused on my goal. With determination and resilience, I continued working every day to become the very best version of myself. Since late 2021, I have been based in Amsterdam, where I joined Team Paraatletiek, a unique training group bringing together 10 athletes( para-athletes and able-bodied athletes.)
Together, the team won eight medals at the Paris Paralympic Games, demonstrating the strength of inclusion and the power of genuine teamwork. Alongside my sporting career, I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Sciences (STAPS) and a Master’s degree from Kedge Business School, specialising in Marketing and Human Resources.
